As the title asks. There is a leg in his mouth? Coincidence? Or did he eat it?

He looks guilty! Pretty sure they will eat most anything... kill though, I don’t think so.

You sure that’s not a piece of molt?

That looks more like a parasitic worm to me than a hermit crab...

How old is this tang?
How long have you had him?
Can you get some shots of his belly?
Have you ever noticed any long white stringy stuff hanging out of his butt?
What did you do to quarantine him? Did you worm him with praziquantel or something else?

Most ocean life is opportunistic. They will eat just about everything. However, they prefer different types of foods. Tangs are omnivores, but prefer (and need) greens in their diet. Make certain to offer nori or spirulina during feedings and he won't pick off other life. But even though, predation can happen no matter what.

Just this week, I saw my pallet tang eating a mexican turbo snail. Actually swimming with it still in the shell across the tank while eating it (being chased by the Powder Blue who apparently wanted to see what he was munching on.) It just happens.
