Just wanted to know if you guys clean your MH bulbs from the residue left over from water evaporation. If so how?

Yes, it can cut down on light output. Some books recommend to clean them as much as once a week! Use a damp sock (damp with fresh water) then use a seperate dry sock. Wait until bulb has cooled before you start.

If you have a glass cover between bulb and water, you shouldn't be getting any salt splash. I guess you may have a single ended bulb, though. I don't think they need a glass guard, in that case make sure you don't get any fingerprints on the glass of the bulb. If you do, use Isopropyl Alcohol to get it off.

Do many people keep a glass cover between lights and tank? Doesnt it cut down on the amout and spectrum of light that gets into the aqaurium?
