How many of you guys out there do water changes with your nano tanks?

Yes
No

And why?

The reason im asking, is i spoke with a man at LiveAquaria who said he never does water changes..just like daily or so top offs with all his saltwater aquariums and never has any problems. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Yes. Once a week, or so, w/ the water from my large reef tank. I also top off every other day or as needed. Mine is a 5gl w/ live filter.

Yes, i already have a tank and do water changes..just wanted to see what you guys do. I just thought that was neat when he told me that he never did water changes and everything was doing great. He just did daily top offs.

I think performing water changes is very important especially for smaller tanks. It is a great form of nutrient export and also replenishes trace elements. Even if you run a refugium, skimmer, dose supplements, etc I can't imagine not doing water changes.

Just my opinion.

My tank is new since the end of Oct and have change water twice. Approx. 4 gal. each. I just installed a sapphire nano skimmer on Fri. and it is working like a champ. I think I need more cleanup crew personal. I did it because my nitrates were high the first time and then rose again after fish and a couple corals were added last week.

ya, i do normal water top offs, and try my hardest to do a 3-5 gallon water change every week. but it usually ends up being every 2 weeks

Thats the ENTIRE PRINCIPAL behind nano tanks.....water changes....minimum of 10% a week..... 15% or more is better.

I change 2 gallons every week, without fail, in my 12 gallon nano.

everything in my tank (20 g long) does great... but i only tend to do a 20% change maybe every 2 weeks... but i do dose supplements...

I change 2g/week on my 12g tank and 10g every 2-3 weeks on my 29g tank. I wonder how he removes his nitrates? Maybe he constantly harvests macroalgae and/or has a good skimmer to remove some water...

5g here every 1-2 weeks on my 29G. I just don't have a big enough fuge and skimmer to keep the nutrients as low as my SPS like. I couldn't imagine keeping any sort of color in my SPS without doing water changes for nutrient export and replenishing what I can't dose/test for.
