Do you feed with selcon?

Piper27

I love bengals
Anyone feed selcon soaked food in their sps tank daily? I see Mesenterial filaments after feeding on a few random acros. I am wonder if anyone else sees any difference (I know it's hard to prove it does anything). I think I helps my fish be healthier and more colorful. I am also wondering if there is a lot of phosphates in selcon or not.

I am sure everyone uses it for fish health, but how is it affecting the sps in our tanks? I am rethinking a lot of stuff we do/use on our 210 and I want to make sure the selcon isnt pumping phosphates into the tank.

Also if you use it in your sps reef, it would be great to see some pics of how pretty it makes your fish and in turn your reef.

Have you actually read up about selcon or read the label? Every thing I have read about it says it does not contain phosphates. The food your adding it too on the other hand does. But over using it or not using as recommended could cause potential issues.

I have heard others complain about over use of it will cause phosphate issues. But I have never seen any proof.

I have actually read the label, but I have not memorized it since I have only seen it once. Is there some good articles out there on selcon or something? I haven't really read anything other than forum stuff. What issues could it cause? I know our food has phosphates, thats why we like to strain and press the water out of the food, plus that way it soaks up more selcon. It's hard to believe some of the labels on fish products.
I wonder if there is a way to test if it has phosphates.

there is some good info about it out there. doing some google searching will find alot. i personally have been using the stuff for many years without any issues with anything in my tanks. but i also dont over use the stuff and dont use it every day either.

i agree it is hard to believe what is on the bottles some times. i like to research everything that goes into my tank before i buy it or use it. some times there is not enough info out there to help ya out though. but selcon is not one of those.

the direct impact it has on SPS corals would be hard to prove. i do notice i get better polyp extension when i use it during feedings or just adding it to my tank by itself. is it actually helping out my SPS? im not 100% sure and nobody can be, but i would like to hope it does help them out to a point when it is added to the tank. i know my fish look better when i use it for sure.

alot of people also complain that it makes their skimmer go nuts and over flow. i have never had this issue either. but i could imagine it to be possible. depending on your skimmer and how it is setup. then of course there are many people who say it clouds up their tanks and stays that way for awhile. that is always going to happen if you use alot of the stuff. it clears up for me in about 30min-1hr depending how much is added to the tank.

It almost doesn't even cloud our tank because it gets almost all the way soaked. We have used it for 6+ years religiously. I have been slowly changing things on our 210 to try and simplify and cut out potential issues. Basically just making the tank safer and easier to maintain. My girl feeds the fish and does everything fish, I forgot she even used it til the other day.
So my post is basically about making sure its a good thing to keep using so often.
