do you have a valve on your return?

Hey guys...just wondering if most people put a ball valve to adjust the flow of water going back to your tank? right now I have a sedra7000 return pump and Im having lots of microbubbles and the water rushing through the pipes is very loud...Is this because I have too much flow going through them? If I was to reduce the flow a little bit would that help?

cheers!

I have a gate valve on mine, but I plan on removing it. I do not dial down the flow at all so it is really useless. As a matter of fact it is slowing my return flow. Unless you have a skimmer that is dumping micro bubbles into the sump and have no measures to stop micro bubbles from getting to the Sedra, you should not be having micro bubbles.

If the pressure is too high for the pipes I would "T" or "Y" your return into two outlets instead of cutting power from the pump. A sign of too much flow would be if the pump was outpumping the overflows.

I put a T just underneath the box....it cut down a little bit of the noise but its still loud....is there anything else I can do?

I have a ball vavle on my return pipe but just to use when I have to shut down the pump so the water does not backflow. You should not use a valve to restrict your water flow it will put stress on the pump and in time cause damage to it.

its sounds just like if someone was taking a shower in the next room and you had the pipes in your room....the overflow is quiet...the entrance of water into the sump is quiet...its just the rushing water in the pipes that is very loud....I used all 1" pvc pipes

You probably should have used 3/4" pipes.

Valves can be used on a return pump as long as they are not prior to the intake. They MUST be on the return.

Oh I didnt think of using smaller pipes...I was thinking of going 1.5"....how about going with flexible pvc? Im thinking of attaching it at the T and have two flex pvc going into the sump.....right now I wrapped a towel around the pipes and it muffled the noise a bit more...Its actually not too bad now...when I turn the tv on you can barely hear it....let me know what you think of the flexible pvc

I have a ball valve on my return. I crank back on the pump a little and it stopped all the micro bubbles. I too had too much water rushing through the pipes. Put the valve at least a foot above the return(where it comes out from the pump). I was told by Dolphin it would not damage the pump at all. Tina
