Its well known that ORP is a good indicator of water quality. Its not necessary to track your ORP but its a great tool.

In my book, anything over 400 is desirable. However lower readings can yield great results too.

So, if you track your ORP, what is your reading? Have you noticed any behavioral changes in SPS at certain ORP levels?

I could but Im not really interested if ppl are not measuring ORP. The number people who dont measure ORP outweigh the number of ppl who do.

If you want to state that you do not, just leave a comment and maybe a quick reason or idea ect :)

Would be nice to know what percentage don't.

Here is a poll to address that question with a link back to this thread for discussion:

technically I'm more 300-400 truthfully, but I put it in the 350-450 range since it stays above 350 more often then not

I do but take no measures to raise it. I don't run a ozone generator etc..

My levels stay pretty well between 350-400..I really don't notice much as to health of sps regarding the reading although it doesn't fluctuate much. I do notice it raise after WC's for a day or two then it settles back to where it's usually at..I agree it's a good tool to have another point of reference to just monitor regularity.

On a side note how often do you guys calibrate the probes? I was doing monthly but now I'm more like every 2-3 months or if I notice it not moving at all..

Well I guess the tribe has spoken :p

Calibrate every few months and your fine IMO. In terms of helping people on the forums, an ORP reading would go a long way.

Not too many people talk about their ORP and its something that I have started to monitor religiously. It would be interesting to see what the delta is between the overall health of your reef in relation to ORP. Setting baselines for new tank startups and WC frequencies, life cycle of biopellets or zeoliths, seeing just how much impact that new naso tang put on the reef ect. I feel like its one of those tools that takes a back seat to many things but could play a role in a vast array of senarios.
