Do you name your fish?

I had just bought 4 shrimp (2 cleaner, 2 blood) and upon arrival my son named one of the blood shrimps "rocket". Well come next morning Rocket had been killed while molting so I named the killer.....Godzilla! The cleaners don't have names yet.....

My fowlr is Latino. I have Frederico (majestic angel), Javier (lemonpeel angel), Amigo (Niger trigger), Juan y Ramon (royal grammas) The nano reef is ghetto with Laquisha and Tyrone (clowns), and Oscar (scarlet hermit).

Mostly my kids name them, and like goldmaniac said once a type is named it’s branded forever in my tank. Thankfully this has only happened once, had a 6 line wrasse which was named Zack that vanished away, only to reappear in the QT tank 4 weeks later. It’s like magic to my 4 year old!
-Yellow Tang named, Poon
-Clowns, both get called Nemo
-Hippo Tang, Dory
Foxface, Foxy
Copperband, Copper
Those are the only ones special enough to have received names so it’s about a 60% named, 40 % unnamed.

I name just about everything.
coral banded shrimp-Louie
skunk cleaner-Pepe le Pew
serpent starfish-Bettis
emerald crab--Eugene
Scopas tang--Troy
lawnmower blenny--Mr. Magoo

They seem to have more personality when you name them.

Yellow Tang: Jetson

2 Blue Chromis: Milo & Otis
2 Cleaner Shrimp: Comet & Ajax
2 Bangaii: Originally named Hans & Frans. Until they had babies.
2 Mocha clowns: I refuse to name either Nemo.
Royal Gramma: Pixel
And finally Calvin the Clam.

My girlfriend names all our fish. Some names are more original than others, but I agree that it gives the fish individual identity and personality. Let's see there are:

copper the copper band butterfly
tangy the pacific blue tang
grandpa the algae blenny

etc...

I think that grandpa is our favorite. He just looks grumpy and ornery!

Oh, then there are the corals. Most are nameless but we do have "battery" - Pavona maldavensis really does resemble the copper top battery!

Once we added fish to our system , my kids asked if they could name the fish.
And I said "Why would you do that, it doesn't make sense. They don't have ears to hear you call them by their names."
They agreed. End of discussion.

I love to name my pets after coworkers/classmates etc.

My favorite is probably my blue chromis named Dr. Flegal - I picked him up during my undergrad, the same day that my stats teacher was presented with his doctorate degree (his name was Flegal).

I don't but my mother does and it is hard to keep up, she has "her own" tank too.

Six line wrasse - Enda (Apparently he has the mouth of local politican she doesn't like)
Neon Goby - Neo
Pair of cleaner shrimp - Ozzie and Issie
Cardinal - PJ
Fire fish - Rosie.

Some of mine that she has named included

Pair common Clowns - Jack and Jill
Tiny mantis shrimp - Foxy
Pair of cleaner shrimp - Lilly and Harry.

I won't try and remember all the freshwater fish she has named too!!

If I phone home from work I get reports on who ate what, who chased who etc etc and it can a laugh trying to work out who the hell she is talking about :spin1:
