When I switched to a sump I didn't make a place for carbon because i didn't think it was neccesary. However since I'm adding some phosguard, I thought it might be a good idea to add some carbon too. Whaddaya think?
Note that the use of Phosguard should be carefully considered as it is known to release Aluminum into your water. A Granulated Ferric Oxide (GFO - PhosBan, PhosAr, Rowaphos) is a more advisable method for removing Phosphorus from a marine aquarium.
And yes, Carbon is DEFINATELY a food idea. And you can mix Phosguard & Carbon, or GFO media & Carbon. Just make sure it doesn't get churned too badly as that can grind the media and cause more problems...
