Do you spot feed your Z&P?

Target feeding Coral Frenzy once a week lately.
They love it and yes, the reproduce a little faster than before.

1/week feeding with Reef Roids. Everyone is enjoying it and everything seems to have a nicer, healthier color to them

I don't have any experience to compare with other foods, but based on the reaction I get from my corals.. its good hehe. Even the CUC comes out to clean up right away

Is Reef Roids powder? They know what to put in those foods!!!
I also like Fauna Marin Ultra Zoa/Acan food.

ya it's a fine powder and when you open it, maaaan do you smell the sealife! no wonder they love it so much.
I just mix some with a little tank water and then eye dropper it on everyone.

If i can get my hands on any other brands I'll definitely try, its just the LFS i go to only carries the roids so it is more convenient for me

Have never seen zoas actually take in food. I find keeping consist water parameters is all I need

Hi Fridat Night: you're not alone!
I've heard that from many zoa keepers.

I don't really know why some people say that, better, why their zoas don't eat.
Did you actually tried to target feed the polyps?

All my zoanthids grab their foods, independent of their body size and shape.
Some are slower than others, for sure.

The small polyps (zoanthus spp.) tend to be little more passive in that matter, but they still grab the dry coral foods and eat. They don't really care for the food in the water column, but if I target feed they do eat. The small ones don't care for the liquid food nor for larger particles. That could be because they can't really fit the larger foods in their mouths.

Some people tend to feed their fishes a lot, so the polyps automatically are fed and that works great for them. I'm cautious when feeding my fish and give them only what they eat.

Zoanthids absorb nutrients from the water too, so the lights (zooxanthellae) and the absorption are probably enough to keep them growing/ reproducing.

I found that the dry coral foods are the best for me because doesn't trig any major algae bloom.

I like the feeding topic very much. Hope others could post their experiences so we all learn more!!

I started feeding the tank with BRS Reef Chili about two weeks ago. Just once every couple of days. Everyone gets in on the fun. I turn off the sump pump for an hour when I feed, but keep the vortech running to keep uneaten food suspended. No need to go out of my way to spot feed individual zoas. Too early to say how much of a difference it'll make in zoa propagation.

Hey Grandis, what dry food are you using to feed your small zoas?

Hello buddythelion:
Coral Frenzy and Fauna Marin zoa food right now.

You need to target feed them so they react to it.
Even if I don't blow the food on them they eat the fine particles when you drop on them!
It's beautiful!! :)
Normally I stop the pumps and let the food drop on them to watch.
They close and stay for a while. They open after say 10 min., when the pumps come on again.

They love both foods.
I've heard about Coral Frenzy around here (RC zoa forum) and I know for a fact that other people feed their zoas with Coral Frenzy. Everyone did have good reports. That's why I've got it.
I've got a sample of Fauna Marin Zoa food at MACNA 2010 and couldn't believe how much the zoas loved that too. I don't know the ingredient they put in those foods to make them go crazy about it, but the zoas love it!!!

I did try other foods, like the Reef Nutrition products, Coralife invert foods, among many others in the past... The liquid invert foods are hard to deal with because of the higher probability of algae blooms (phosphates). For some reason the small zoas aren't so interested on them, like they are with the dry coral foods.

I feed my fishes flakes, mysis and pellets.
The zoas take some of the left overs too...

I dose vitamins and aminos in very small amounts to help their nutrition.
Spoiled polyps!!!

I haven't heard of dosing vitamins before, but after some googling people say to soak the Fauna Marin Zoa with Ultra Min D. I have no idea how to get either products. :(

I feed my zoas and SPS Phytofeist live, Rotofeist and Marine Snow all mixed together once a week. Once the eye droper with the food in it hits the water every thing seems to respond to it even my clowns try to eat it and my serpant star even comes out. It is kind of neet to see how much activity it inlists. Also I just tried it the other day but on a collony of magicians I drop some New Life Spectrum pellets they closed up around it in a hurray and it sure looked like they aet it. At least when they opened back up it was gone. I think Zoas will really take anything that is the right size. We will see if it helps them grow any.
