Do you stack your rock against back glass?

I did in my 50 G and was never a problem.

Setting up 220 G and have close to 300lbs.

Do you think it will be a problem?

I agree - leave room for flow and swimming for your fish - makes the tank loo much more 3-dimensional IMO.

If you need more filtration, think about a big pile of LR in your sump...

Just one option.

Depending on how much stuff you have to put in the new tank it might be unavoidable in places but if you can leave a good space you should. So long story short, if you don't have to don't.

P.S. - if you ever have to "fish" a $100 frag that fell off the back side of your LR, you'll be glad you left space... been there, done that. :rolleye1:

In my 260 I started with the "pile". It's a detritus trap and for large fish it inhibits their swimming space. One too many times a rock would tumble and leave a path of destruction. I took half my rock out and the rest was drilled and threaded and permanently placed on clear acrylic and carbon fiber rods. The fish have more room to swim, I have access to everywhere, there's better flow, and it looks more natural.

Yeah, the only reason I'd put rocks on the back glass is if the tank is so small in width that there's no place else to go (further away from front glass is a priority for using the magnetic cleaner :)) or you were going to do a "reef wall" look, but I'm guessing thats not what you want to do.

How wide is the 220? 24", 30" ?? Make due with the room you got, if you don't have enough room to put all the rocks in, put the rocks in the sump or something.

So what did you decide to do? not stack against back wall? In my 180G with rock away from the glass I was getting the rock wall look so I rearranged it so some went against the wall...now it looks so much better....also I had to go from larger peices to smaller ones...
