Do you still need port forwarding with fusion?

i am sorry for all the questions but I have had my Apex set up for awhile and I don't really have to think about it much. Well I got a new set up and my needs have changed and I need to set this up again. I have tried to call Neptune and to get thru to them is next to impossible, they are willing to call me but I don't get home til late. My controller is working fine, and fusion works when I am home on wifi so I assume the Internet part isn't configured. Do I still need to go into the router and set up the port forwarding or does fusion automatically do that?

I also would like to get my page to be the old view, is that still an option?

Thanks for the help

Derek.

Fusion does not use port forwarding.and if you able to access your apex via Fusion at home, you are going through the internet. Fusion does not care where you are coming from.

thats what I thought, but I have no issues getting on it at home, cannot away from home. If you dont have to use it, why is it explained in the manual? In case you dont want to use fusion ?

I am hoping neptune calls tonight. It has been over a week since I have been trying to contact them.

Because you need it for the Classic Dashboard access via the internet, which was the only way until Fusion came along.

If you can access fusion at home, and can't remotely then something is blocking the calls to apexfusion.com.

Classic Dashboard is still super useful and has more features then fusion (i.e. profile), I would sill setup port forwarding if you can. If you are worried about security make it a ssh tunnel and create some ssh keys only you will have.

That wasn't Fusion... that was the Neptune app. Two totally different things.

Using the app, you need to have port forwarding set up in order to access the Apex outside your network. The app was just a glorified browser, really. No different than accessing it over the internet, just a better user interface.

Fusion doesn't need downloading or installing. You access Fusion through the web, and Fusion then contacts your Apex. There is nothing to install on your device for Fusion - you just go to the Fusion site.

With Fusion, your Apex periodically uploads data to one of Neptune's servers. There is no need for port forwarding with Fusion.

Please, go to this link and read up on the documentation. The comprehensive manual explains quite a bit, and there are quick-start guides for a few things that might answer your questions.

It sounds like you are using the old Apex app, which I tend to use the most because I like seeing the green light when it connects to my Apex, which tells me that I have power and am online. I prefer Fusion for seeing graphs and setting up things like Radions and DOS units.

Thanks guys, I know I didnt realize they were two different thing. Neptune was nice enough to spend some time with me, and get things going. I am still having an issue with not having the right version installed, but at this point I dont care everything is working so I am going to leave it alone for now. It tells me the version, and the pages dont match? I dont know what it means, but will deal with it one day.

Thanks again Derek

It means there's a mismatch between the firmware version and web pages version. The apex base unit includes a web server. That's the "Classic Dashboard" you access via a web browser and it provides an interface to the functions in the firmware. When that firmware is changed the internal web pages are also changed to match the new or changed firmware.

It would be much simpler(for the user) if the updater just handled both sets of changes - but it doesn't. And so they can get out of sync.

thanks for the reply I contacted Neptune and they said there is a bug and that is the reason it is saying it. It is being addressed and with be in a future update??

Thanks Derek
