Do you treat new fish or just QT them?

I brought home a very small, maybe 1.5" Yellow Tang tonight. I put him in my QT tank to see if he would show anyt signs of Ich and such during his QT course. The tang is the only fish in there.
What do most people do, do they medicate for ich right away? Bath, dip, or just medicate the QT tank?
Dont Yellow tangs usually die from copper treatments? And sensitive to the 1.009 SG?

The things I bought just to kind of prepare myself is, Fomalin, Para Guard, Prazipro. I didnt buy any copper

I was going to alternate baths 1 day at a time but thought I would see what other people do when bring home a new addition.

I'm a newbie to saltwater, but have kept freshwater for well over 20 years.

I never try to fix a problem until I know there is a problem.

I try to keep that philosophy in life as well.

I would love to do that but I know how fish can carry ich with no signs until they are stressed out.
I have searched and read several threads of what other people have done and the ones with tangs usually dont turn out so good.

It really depends on the fish..however every fish that i qt gets dewormed with prazipro. This is pretty mild medication on the fish and will take care of flukes and internal parasites. Also while he is in qt if you dont wanna use cupramine(copper) then useing hypo on the fish for 4 weeks or so will not stress the fish and can give you some piece of mind knowing that you at least attempted to take care of ich.

So is para guard useless? Some say para guard is only good for fungal disease. On the label though it states ectoparisites which would be ich right? I have other fish that are in another qt tank that I add 5ml per 10gal everyday since it evaporates in 24hrs. I was going to do this for a course of 4 weeks. Then go 2 weeks with the prazipro.

I do not know to much about para guard although i do have some in my medicine cabinet i have only used it once for a quick pre qt bath.I am skeptical about any other meds for ich other then copper or hypo.I have yet to see anyone that has shown proof that other methods work for fighting it.

Thanks rocky. I have a 25 gal tank with the tang in it now. I went ahead and dosed with paraguard and Ill do that for a few days. I'm going to have someone double check my refracto meter before I slowly drop the SG down to 1.09.
I really thought I would get more opiniaons than this treating a yellow tang with copper or not.
Happy turkey day!!

Tangs CAN be iffy about copper. I prefer to drop the salinity. Thats it for me unless I see something suspicious.
I stay away from medications when possible!
