Do zoas release poison in water??

I have a small colony of zoanthids and I think several died or are dying for some reason :mad2:. Many of the others seem fine and healthy so i don't know what happened. I was wondering if the poison they contain would be released into the water and then could kill or hurt any other living things. Thanks!

I dont think they release any poisons. At least nothing that will kill another coral in your tank. They will just slowly melt away.

No they don't.

I would look closely at the ones that aren't doing well. Check for nudibranchs or sundial snails.

If you have another tank I would take them out and move them to the other tank...untell they turn around for the better

Well, there's only about 3.. and one is like breaking in half.. It's not melting. Is that normal?

Now they are doing fine. The ones that were dying pretty much died off and the rest of the colony is fine. Thanks for all the answers! I should be getting some deep water zoas or a ricordea mushroom soon!

dont almost all corals put out small chemical signatures that other corals can "smell", then forcing them to grow faster in competition for space? i could see a freashly fragged large zoa colony getting a bit of toxin in the water pestereing other corals with cuts but not to sure what the effect could be
