DOC 9006 questions

I'm looking at the DOC 9006 for in sump use due to small space for a skimmer. What is addition to the footprint with the extension kit added? Looking at the water line on the skimmer I'm not 100% sure its needed. The water depth will be around 8.5" or 9". Also I plan to use it under a 50 gallon cube, but I'm not sure on the bioload yet. How well do you think it will perform depending on bioload?

Keep in mind that a 9011 includes the extension kit and is a much better value considering this, basically $30 more for a much stronger skimmer. I would always choose the 9011 over the 9006 whenever it would fit. If you can raise the water level to about 10.5", you would not need the extension kit. With an extension kit you need a 5 by 7 area for installation. The 9006 was designed for one particular niche, a sub 100 gallon tank with a canopy so the short cup will fit under the canopy. For all other purposes, if it fits, go 9011.

Thanks for the info. I actually had the water level raise to 9.5" so I could have my heaters mounted vertically, but would assume if I went with the 9011 I'd still need the extension kit to be on the safe side.
