Does a 150 gallon + 80 gallon sump qualify?

There's been some debate on this, and many suggestion of a new forum for mid sized tanks. Something bigger than a nano but smaller than the stated 180g volume for the large tank forum. So your in that grey area. In my opinion, its doenst qualify, however, there have been several similar systems here in the past, and the mods have not moved them, and they have been welcomed by everyone.

What I like about the Large Reef Tanks forum is that there is a community of reefkeepers here that appreciate and share knowledge that is pertinent about larger tanks.
In my opinion and experience, nanos are a different field. That is, the requirements or factors affecting small tanks are different.
I agree, there needs to be a mid-range tanks forum if size is the entry criterion. I will post here then as my tanks bio most fits this forum.

OK I'm a bit confused. It says "water volumes of 180 gallons and larger" So doesn't that include the water in the sump? Some guys have refs in their sumps or frag sections. Just because your not in the 500 and better club to me doesn't mean you can't post here. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe guys with such large tanks don't like us guys with not so big of tanks posting here. I would think as long as your with in the specs that you can hang. I myself look and read most of the post here for the wealth of information and because I love seeing all the ideas of posters here. You guys are geniuses with some of the ideas you come up with. S121 is right, the requirement for a larger tank is very different for theh nanos. Just hope I'm not steping on feets here, just thought I'd chime in.

Since I have never seen a mod comment on a post like this, I dont know what they mean when they state " volumes of 180 gallons or larger". Its kinda like interpreting the constitution, hahaha. I interpret it to mean main display volume, and would like to see the forums split out this way (by main display volume). For systems without main displays, frag and breeding systems etc, perhaps another forum. Actually, I think there already is a forum for frag systems...or coral propagation I think its called. Personally, I prefer the divisions, not because I think the requirements for such systems are drastically different, but because it would help me better find what I am looking for.
As I stated before, or at least tried to, since there are no clear rules, no one is going to throw a fit if you post here or there or wherever!
But to me, owning a toyota doesn't mean you can post on a lexus forum. I hope that analogy makes sense

We might as well make it 280+ gallon tanks only. I have a 180 gallon and I'm definitely not in the same league as some of you with the really huge tanks.
Maybe we can make a list of requirements. You might just be a "large tank forum poster" if:
* You can't reach the bottom of your tank without a tool and a ladder.
* Metal objects tend to rust when in the same room as your tank.
* Your pants zipper rusts after spending an hour in your tankroom.
* You need more than two or three 250 watt halides to light your tank.
* The lights in your whole neighborhood dim a little when your controller turns on your tank lights every day.
* You have ever received a four-figure powerbill.
* Your electric meter spins faster than a top.
* You have more than 5 tangs, and the tang police just don't care.
* You have a shoal of yellow tangs and the tang police marvel at it.
* You could fit more than two of your kids in the empty tank for pictures to put in your build thread.
* You can swim in your tank with scube gear.
* You go through more than a bucket of salt per month for water changes.
* You go through RO/DI membranes and resins like candy.
* Your sump is bigger than most RC tanks.
* Your ATO reservoir is bigger than most RC tanks.
* Your daily evaporation rate is enough to fill a nano tank by itself.

Well really BigJay's joke list kind of points out the reason for a large tank forum.. Large tanks have different't issues then standard systems.. Everything from dealing with moisture to dealing with bracing floors, ect ect. There are a few 150 gallon tanks with sumps on here and it seems to be fine with everyone.. But I also agree I like the fact that they are divided. I come to this forum to see large tanks and how they incorporated them into their home. I wouldn't really want a bunch of 120s with livestock tanks in their basements getting posted here. I'd love to see them in another forum.. Just not here. Just my .02 on it.. Btw I have a 190 that I'm replacing with a 310. I have to agree with BigJay I didn't even post my starphire 190 with 75 sump and 40 gallon frag tank build here cause I felt it wasn't really a large tank. Now the 310 Might make it here haha

I'll compare myself to a friend of mine (psteeleb on the forums here). Here's a specific example of a big tank, a LARGE tank, and a medium tank scenario:
* Before I setup my tank, I had added another 1/2 ton of capacity on the main heat pump. It works fine and takes care of the extra humidity/BTU of a 180g in my living room.
* Pete not only did that, but he also had to install a complete ventilation system including an exhaust duct fan and a filtered air intake for his in-wall 290g setup.
* Someone with a smaller tank might not have to do anything.
While I have some of the "large tank" problems, I'd feel ashamed posting about them here after reading what some of you have to go through to setup and run your tanks. Kudos to all of you with super-reef tanks.
