does any of you drip Ca into the display?

Hi, I think dripping alk and Ca into my sump may be too much for my return pump, and I'm considering dripping the Ca part in front of a power head in the display. Is this going to annoy the corals?

Why would it be to much for your return pump? If possible I wouldnt do it in the display, you could put it in the overflow box but then it still eventually goes to your return pump, which I still dont understand why you would be worried about that.

The alk and Ca are both dosed to the sump and the return pump builds up calcium residue removing it from the water.

I've heard of this, build up on the pump and heaters in the sump. But I have yet to see it on my setup.

It's probably because I have too much flow running through my sump and am not dosing THAT much yet.

How much, how(dosing pump?) and what are you dosing? Would a dosing pump scheduled to spread the dosing out help?

i think it would work, i like your idea,
the combination of the fliuds your dosing will cause precipitation and a higher calcium carbinate build up on the return pump, i believe the fliud is concentrated in your sump and has not properly been diluted by the entire tank volume in water, thus resulting in excessive build up on your return pump impeller.

i would try, introducing one (say alk) on the left going into the power head
then cal going into the right powerhead

you can recieve the same type of build-up on your powerheads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm not that, knowledgable on dosing, but i do believe you can use a dosing pump to create interviels between dosing each fluid and it still work like it should

best of luck

It seems like its working. My Alk is dosed every hour for 3 min ( or 3ml in the sump) and the Ca is now dosing for 6 min every second hour in front of my mp-10. I have been able to maintain Ca/Alk since I made the change at 1/3 of my previous dose. So time will tell, but looking positive.
