Does anyone has a fish trap that I can borrow?

Hi y'all,

Does anyone have a fish trap that I can borrow to catch my foxface rabbit? It's about 5 inches long.

One of my fish ate my Tub's Blue zoanthid this afternoon :eek2: I have a very strong suspicion that it's the fox face.

Tubs Blue polyps were open and beautiful at 2:00 PM. Two hours later at 4:00 PM I found my Tub's Blue and Purple Hearted Emerald zoanthids gone.

I found PHE caught on the grill of my Koralia 4 by the small aragonite rock base, but my tub's blue was nowhere to be seen.

I was wondering why my Purple Hearted Emerald frags have been closed up, too. My PPE and other purple zoa periodically look unhappy and I had not been able to find the reason. Now I know :mad2:

I have two suspects - a large fox face rabbitfish and a pygmy angelfish. Based on the fact that it takes quite a bit force to dislodge the small rock base superglued on a ceramic plug, I figure it's the handy work of my big fat fox face. The small pygmy angel may peck on things but I doubt that it can dislodge the rock base. I have seen my fox face inspecting my frags on the frag tray before, too.

I constructed a basket to protect all my purple zoanthids for now. For some reason the marauder loves purple zoas but not others. Luckily it has not attacked my Purple Death.

In any event, if any of you have a fish trap large enough to capture the fox face, please, please let me know!!

I enjoyed meeting you and seeing your tanks this weekend Tomoko. I'm really sorry to hear about your Tubs. Maybe Zaozao has extra Tubs that he is willing to trade. Otherwise, the 4 polyps frag of tubs I got 3 weeks ago is now 5 polyps with 4 fully formed buds that are growing. If they keep growing like this (and I hope that they do) then I should be able to make a frag next month. Good luck catching the fish with very expensive taste.

Oh btw, I compared the taste of Madison tap water vs. Hoover tap water. Madison's water tasted like it had some serious chemicals in it.

Thanks, kiran. Yeah, my fish has a very expensive taste for sure. My pygmy angel (a different one) ate up my brand new Alien Eye zoanthid colony in one afternoon. That was three years ago. He was caught with a home made fish trap.

I have not found a big fish trap for the big bad boy yet. I may have to make one. I have been known to produce an interesting looking home made contraption. I wish I can make one that would scare him to death

walbertt gave me a suggestion for a larger bottle trap (my existing bottle trap is too small for the fat boy.)

He wrote:
"Take a quart fruit jar or pint and a 16 oz plastic cup . cut the center of the cup out and fit into Jar. And glue around the cup with crazy glue. add food and wait."

I have to cut the bottom half off the plastic cup for the big boy.

Madison's water tasted like it had some serious chemicals in it.

With all the construction work going around me, I would not be surprised if water board added something to the water to keep it safe for people in the event of a line break or tie-in's.

City of Madison water is full of all kinds of interesting stuff as is Huntsville's some low levels of various toxins and carcinogens as well as some amusing bacteria and organics. All are supposedly within "acceptable" levels.

Sorry about your Zoa's purple must taste better.

I get the report every year. I have talked with the person in charge of testing water a few times in the past. It's actually a bit more complicated.

First of all these are average numbers. It really cannot tell you how high copper, phosphate or what have you was at certain time of the year. We just have to test our water to tell the actual level at any given time unfortunately. I have to use Amquel to bind heavy metals for my daphnia culture which is very sensitive to copper and other heavy metals. If I don't, I usually lose the culture. It happened a few times in the past and I am not taking chances any more. Angelfish babies die with a copper level at 0.5 ppm which is below the "accepted" level (for human consumption) of 1 ppm.

Madison buys water from several water sources including Huntsville depending on the demand on water. Different parts of Madison get different combinations of the water from water sources. In summer time when the demand is high due to everybody watering their lawn, we get a lot of Huntsville water.

In any event, our water is pretty clean for human consumption. I just need to maintain my RODI system for reef keeping. The membrane and a set of prefilters are supposed to be here today
