Does anyone have two Maxpect Gyre set up?

I was wondering if anyone has two Maxspect Gyre pumps running in their tanks and why and how is it working for you? I am also wondering of those who have the Maxspect Gyre, now that you have had it for a while, what do you think of it?

I've had a F130 on my tank since it came out. I really like it, and it's still way more pump than I need (at more than 50% softies and LPS on the opposite side of the tank on the bottom get battered). I'm considering getting another one for the other side of the tank and having them alternate at 6 hour intervals since with the way the Gyre works, there's very little flow when in reverse unless you swap one of the rotors, which then reduces the flow in either direction. I really like the low profile of the pump, though, and the flow it creates, and it's very quiet. For the price point it's hard to beat.

We currently have the Maxspeck 150. I was wondering about adding the 130 on the other side and doing something similar to what you are speaking of. The reason for the 130 size would be because of the overflow box on the one side and the amount of room I have there.

I have a 130 F.S. but looks like your far away and shipping eats up $$
I used it for LESS then a month and stayed with the MP40's
The space is limited with the long outside magnet and I ran into the same room constraints so I cut down the magnet by 1/2 on each end and nothing in the middle by using 2 Avast Marine Magnets on either end to cut a few inches off (outside only) and fit between. It held great and just fine on full speed.

I ordered another 130 that should be here today; it'll go on the overflow side and I'll start by alternating them every 6 hours with maybe 5-10 minutes of overlap at each changeover. We'll see how it goes. :)

so far the only issue ive had with the 150 has been with very small snails getting into the impellers .makes one heck of a racket. right now im running a mp 40 at one end and the 150 at the other. the mp 40 is louder than the 150 ,its a constant humm. the 150 is dead silent. i like them both , they both have pro's and con's

I'm back! I set up the second Gyre a few days ago. I have them set to alternate every 6 hours with a 2 minute overlap.

- It's true, you really do need to clean the Gyre frequently... I haven't cleaned the first one in a few months and the difference in flow from old to new was very apparent. Doh!
- My BTA, which always lived in the middle of the tank, had moved to one side by the following day.
- The amount of detritus stirred up when the new pump went in was not drastic, but there was definitely stuff getting stuck that the flow from just one Gyre didn't get (opposite sides of the rocks, etc.)
- The new pump flows in the same direction as my return so I had to turn it down 20% less than the pump that's flowing against it.
- The overlap causes some massive turbulence - originally had it set to 5 minutes and cut it down to 2 (I suspect it's what made the BTA vacate and take its anemone crabs and clowns with it)

HTH, let me know if you have any more questions :)

Thanks Coelli, How do the fish and corals respond to the massive turbulence as you put it? Do they seem stressed with the change?

Nope, everyone seems fine so far! I'm sure it might be stressful if it was prolonged, but so far 2 minutes every 6 hours is fine.

Not so much a question about the pumps, but why did you time them to alternate every 6 hours? Any reason for picking 6 hours as opposed to some other duration?
