Does anyone not use a cover on their tank?

I use a screen cover that I got from Bulk Reef Supply. It's clear netting so it doesn't affect the light penetration a whole bunch. Fits rimmed tanks very nicely.

My 400g display tank has an entirely open top. I keep the tank heavily stocked with fish and have an occassional jumper. Last year it was my mature Goldflake Angel. Two weeks ago it was an orange spotted blenny.

I am just rebuilding my collection now and have about 50 fish in the tank. I plan to triple that amount.

My outdoor sumps and frag tanks have fish and are also entirely open top.

I have a BRS kit put together for my yet to have water in it rimless 60 cube. I'm trying to think of a way I can rest the top just inside the rim so it sits flush with the top of the aquarium. I'm thinking a little silicone to put 4 small glass holders at the corners. Should hardly be noticeable if at all.

Currently the frame sits perfectly over the outside of the frame. Doesn't look the greatest but isn't terrible either. Like others if I stick to the frame over design it'll probably come off I'm home and go back on when I'm not and at night.

Yes, I've seen a few done that way, and it looks great

ADA, AquaDesignAquarium, makes plastic clips to hold a screen just below rim level. Also if you google 'aquarium cover clips' you might find something useful.

I have floor shims glued to the top of the brace that are in the corners of the tank, looks fine and does not ruin the rimless look. I have a Elos 160xl, so I obviously wanted a centerpiece tank, but I also really like wrasses and other jumpers, so I have the cover. It does not distract at all.

Looks like they have screen clips for about $8 on amazon. Def. going to be going this route on my rimless. Tried to get "non jumpers" in my old 75g but I still had a Canary Blenny jump out. Waste of money considering how expensive some fish can be.

Thanks for the pointers in the right direction. Led me to a forum where someone suggested gluing a small piece of acrylic to the frame of the screen top. should work great!

an expensive circle

First time in 3 years I've ever had a jumper.... To be honest he was a bully to my anthius, so I'm not horribly sad... Now with that being said... I never actually found him.. So either one of the pistols got him and crabs finished him by morning, or he did jump and my cat finished him...

Here's a pic my cover. It was made by Chris at Pico Aquariums. I really like the look of it as it's made out of acrylic and 1/4" mesh. I just hope it holds up and doesn't warp too bad in the future.

Maximus, that is a sweet cover!

How is the mesh attached to the frame? Can you replace the mesh?

Any pics of the cover on the tank?

He used regular black screws. I think it would look cleaner with white, plastic screws. I'm going to try to find some plastic screws someday, perhaps when the netting needs to be replaced.

If the screws are metal, I'd replace them NOW! After they get all rusted it might be very hard to get them out.

Still one sweet solution to a cover!!

I wonder if anyone makes acrylic screws? :)

Looks like the tank is rimless. How do you hold the cover on? (Hopefully you didn't answer this already!)

I can't believe that many people would agree with this!

I have heard my screens 'bounce' from a fish jumping, when no one is even in that room, and it can happen at any time!

Sure they can jump at any time but in the decade or so that I've kept tanks I've found far more on the floor in the morning when I wake up than any other time.

I suppose I could always put a small dab of silicone on the screws but rust wouldn't affect their removal as the screws are imbedded in the acrylic, totally covered by the acrylic.
