Does anyone still use the tunze wave boxes?

Bent

I got nothin'
What happened to these? Do people still use them? I've not seen anyone put them in a build in a long time.

I think the programmable powerheads with blast-mode/chill-mode made them kinda obsolete. It's a cool idea, but not the easiest way to get a surge. There's a dope diy thread where the kid was using like raspberry pi's to program a perfect rhythm of surges for actual waves that went back and forth across the tank. Really hard to time it just right tho, IDK if he ever made it work.

Found it: http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f...wave-box-166807.html?highlight=DIY+wave+maker

I can kind of see that. I was you tubing around today and stumbled on that old demo video from when the wave boxes first came out. Then I discovered they are on Amazon for like 200 bucks and got my interest piqued again.

How's the upgrade going btw?

Sigh
When I got the big tank I was planning to like maybe get the rocks cooking in there and then transfer after finals in early January. But cause of my usual procrastinating I'm way behind the eight ball on a few things so I haven't even had that luxury. Then my mom got real sick so that comes first. I've got an empty 120 in the living room, might have to put the Christmas tree inside it, or just like stick lights and ornaments all over the tank :)

Btw, your a nurse.... Y'know how when we do the water tests sometimes there's an air gap in the needle that you leave in because it accounts for the tip that isn't included? What about when there isn't a tip? I'm using one of those big needles like you use for a feeding tube to measure my vinegar doses and was wondering if I'm supposed to tap out the bubble or leave it

I still use mine, had them since 2005, love them and would not trade them for anything else on the market today. They are old and need upgraded I am sure since no parts are available for my model.

You still see them fairly frequently. The problem is that most of the controllable DC power heads can do this function in addition to all the other features.

had one that worked well for a long time until the pump just burnt out.
recently got a Maxspect Gyre.... blows it away.
much better than my mp40 too.

Hard for me to visualize, but I would think you would tap the bubble out.

Bent, I inherited a Tunze wave box with a tank purchase. It's ok. I'd leave mine in but for the tight real estate. It's a bonus at best if you have the room. But if you already have like a profilix (I do) and programmable dc powerheads (I do) it's rather unneeded. However, you can find them rather cheap and if you want to get started with that and some AC powerheads I would say that's fine.

Right now they can be had, as you've found, very reasonably. When I get off my duff ill probably put mine in the block as well. New $50 impeller, too.
