Does anyone throttle back their Vortechs?

I have two MP40w's on a 48x24x20 running on NTM.

The flow is pretty crazy at 100%. Was debating throttling back to 75% but don't know if that's sacrilege with these pumps....lol

I was running RC for a little while but I think circulation and randomness is better with NTM.

Reason I say is I don't have great polyp ext during the day yet, but at night everything is extended and the polyps look like they're being blown violently back and fourth. Maybe they love it, I dunno.

I don't have much LPS but I have a nice green/purple frogspawn frag that I can't make happy because of the flow. Just added a pink boobies chalice and at night it's sweepers were being blown everywhere.

i have one on my 4' 120, with sps and lps, its def not enough flow, a second one is in the future. seeing the flow of one, i think two dialed down a bit would be perfect, plus hopfully a little more quiet.

I have two MP40's on my 120 and keep them at full power. I tried turning them down a bit (~70%) for a while but started noticing some of my acros losing tissue at the base so turned them back up to 100%. The tissue loss stopped, so I will keep at 100% permanently from now on. Just my anecdotal experience though so take for what is worth.

i had 4 mp 40 on my tank and had them running at 75% and didnt see an issue.. i then put them on 100% and had a small sand storm so dialed them back down.. it depends on the setting you have it on as well ... i have mind on reefcrest and the randomness is great..

I have one mp40 on 90% in lagoon mode. That's accompanied with two tunze 6045 on a 4ft 90gal. Would love to add one more mp40 in the future. :)

is the ntm light purple in colour on the vortech controller?

Hmm, I'm not sure. I change the modes through my Apex controller. I haven't touched or looked at the vortech controller since I set the tank up.

I don't have any SPS nor other type of hard corals, but I can tell you that you'll never have more flow in your tank than in the ocean. It's just like lights. You simply can't bit the sun's power with artificial lights.
Grandis.

@JG1

My tank has the same dimensions and my 2 MP40w's run at 65-75%. I don't have enormous amounts of rock and my SPS are still pretty young. This has been the best flow for me considering my tank's current level of maturity. I imagine that once my acros are no longer frags but branching colonies, I'll have to bump up my pumps to 100%.

what mode?

Reefcrest. I don't have the new ES controllers, otherwise I hear good things about "nutrient export" mode

edit: reefcrest in anti-sync

I run my mp40 about 60% and the mp10 about 80%. Anti-sync reef crest usually in a 37 gallon SPS tank.

I have two MP40's in my 4' 120 and run them on constant speed 100% with two maxi mod'ed power heads in addition to that.

I'd like to find a couple MP20's I can put in too.

It takes weeks & very careful positioning but none of my corals get blasted, the flow is random and I get very little to no detritus on the bare bottom, saves me some time with the turkey baster.

Jeez, must be a hurricane in your tank!

Do you have ANY lps?
