Does ick always need to be treated?

I have a coral beauty in my reef tank (and he spent a month in qt before going in) that is showing minor signs of ick. As you know, catching a fish in a reef system is next to impossible. I also prefer not to treat for desease in the reef tank due to the impact on everything else in there. If I let the ick go will the fish naturally be able to fight it? So far it is eating and acting normal.
