does it help to brush porites?

I have a yellow porites that is losing color. Polyps still open, but turning a dull yellow brown - maybe brown algae, despite zero nitrate and phosphate? Does it help to softly brush porites, like some people do with acros and sponges?

I did a fresh-water dip. Afterwards, it shed a mucous layer and polyps came out, but still dull / brownish color.

215 g mixed reef with fish room, 300 g total
zero nitrate, phosphate
79-80 F, 420 Ca, 8 dKH

What are you using to measure phosphates, drop kit or hanna? .03 is what is normally recommended. Usually frags turning brown is due to higher phosphate levels.
