I notice my leather doesnt have that many polyps nor are they long. I was wondering if that is normal for this type of leather? I'm not sure what species it is "maybe a finger leather". Anyone can enlightened me on this.
I'm not sure on scale here, but how close is the anemone? The yellow-ish soft coral under the toadstool seems to be hinting at a no-mans land in the direction of the pink-ish leather. If the anemone is in between the two, that could be the reason.
Looks like a finger ot devils hand leather. It does look healthy but you will want to move the torch coral away from it, it looks like it is stinging that one and the one on the back. That should help with the polyps

you cant tell from the angle the picture is taken, but the torch is really like about 7 or 8 inches tenicles length from the toadstools and leather. He is not even close to touching them.
Yeah they should, if i got time tommrow i will post a pic of my older one and show you. But i still think something is bothering it just be looking at your other leather where the polyps are retracted around the edges but the rest of the polyps look fine
It could well be what it is supposed to look at. There is a lot of variation amongst the various leathers. Especially if they've been fragged or grown in specific ways before getting to the tank. Yours does look like it should have more polyp extension, but that random (and not so random) variation can be tricky.
But that yellow leather (Toadstool?) in the background of the first picture hints to something irritating corals in that directions. Maybe try watching that Torch at night to see what it does with sweepers. I know they can be pretty mean. Not sure if they can send a sweeper out that far, but that'd still be my first suspicion.
that pic looks better, I would agree with khemul there are alot of diffrent types so it is really hard to say if it should have more or less, either way it looks nice, and yes keep an eye out on whats disturbing the lether coral in the background.
Devil's Hand leather. Even when they are extrememly happy they will typically not extend all of their polyps at the same time. I think this is typical of this type of leather only. That being said, it should have more extended than in the photo under good conditions. Are your phosphates and nitrates under norms? This is a very hearty species and can come back from lots of abuse.
