does anyone have a leopard wrasse that eats supplemental food? either frozen or pellets of the sort? how long did it take to ween him?

just tryin to do a little research, there great looking fish, and are excellent workers, just dont want the little guy to starve onces he runs out of live food in the tank to eat.

i do have alot of flatworms in the tank, maybe that will sustain him for a while..

anyhow thanks in advance,
Jaymie

couple days then he was taing frozen.

My advice: When you're trying to get a tough fish to feed, feed frozen and LEAVE YOUR PUMPS ON. A lot of people turn off their pumps when feeding, but the added movement from the pumps helps when you have picky fish.

Try cyclopeeze first to get them going and then mysis, pellets, etc... mine eats everything I throw in the tank.

woo hoo. i really wanted this fish, but was afraid he would be too picky and not eat. Thanks for all your posts. i have confidence now :) wish me luck!

Mine were easy to feed-they ate evrything I put in the tank.I agree with Rich Conley about keeping the pumps on when trying to feed a picky eater.

Here is a pic of my Leopard Wrasse :) He is fat and Happy.

The hard part about leopards is getting a healthy one. Most will take to frozen and pellets after a while. They are active hunters and could live on pods/fauna for quite some time until they adapt to prepared foods. A leopard could starve a mandarin if you have one.

I have a potters and gunea fowl. I love them.

Here is a good article on them and what to look for when selecting one.

The best place to get one Locally Jayme is at Reefs Edge...They get them in about once a month. I had 2 from another store and they were both out swimming around the tank and eating live brine there....but I took them home acclimated them for 2 hours....one never came out of the sand and the other lived about 2 weeks.....Reefs edge though will always feed theirs froozen for you....Good luck with it if you do go for it!!

As soon as I saw my leapord wrasse eat prepared foods at the LFS, I bought him. Since I've had him, he's eaten frozen mysis and bloodworms. He also eats my homemade food.

Hey.

I just picked up a large ( 3.5/4inch ) lepard wrasse from my work, we have had him for about 3 to 5 days and he just had poped out of the sand... he had been out for about 2 days so I went ahead and got him.

he is in QT now... but Within a few minutes he was already eatting live blackworms and frozen mysis...

Your best bet is to have them order you one. a med to lg male is preferred... pick it up when it comes in, tell them NOT to acclimate it to their tanks .

take him home and put him in a QT tank with LR and fine sand and start feeding him Live blackworms and Live brine then ween him off of live slowly by adding live and frozen together... youll want to start with frozen spirulina inriched brine with live brine or blackworms... then slowly switch to mysis and then tada, no problems....

good luck!

I could not disagree more on QT. I like QT, but not for all fish. IME this fish needs to be in an established reef immeditaely that if full of fauna. If you QT tank is full of fauna, then that would be OK. Taking it straight home out of the shipping bag is a good idea. Some wholesalers ship them with a bit of sand to ease the stress of shipping - this is good for most.
