Doesn't suck enough

I feel like an idiot asking this, maybe it is just a brain fart.

I have a back drilled 20L being fed about 250gph via 3/4" vinyl tubing. The drain is 1" vinyl tubing going down a pretty good slope with no elbows just a slight unkinked bend.

Why can't the 1" drain keep up with a 250gph pump?

the drain lines probably not big enough dont forget your pumpin water through the 3/4 buyt only gravity is bringing it down through the 1

put a ball valve on the pump line and dial down the pump a bit

It was all new plumbing, so nothing was cloging it. I went ahead and hard plumbed the return with 1" PVC and it flows like a dream, only now I am getting the sucking sound.

I imagine your head loss is more than that, how far is the travel for the return plumbing? The vinyl tubing can get pinched down somewhat, which may have been the problem, but good to hear the PVC fixed it up.

The return goes over about 8" then up about 3'. The PVC did fix it. Now I just have to figure out how to stop it from making all that sucking sound. It's not flushing.

I'm thinking a simple standpipe would fix the problem, the addition of a downward turned 90 degree elbow may also help the cause.

90 degree

90 degree

My vote goes to the 90 degree on the output. The ball valve is also a good idea,or even both if you need them
Good luck

I tried the 90, it just drops the water to the level of the bottom of the 90, which is 2" lower than I want it.

What kind of stand pipe you have in mind?

maybe the problem is you have the back drilled on the tank instead of the bottom, and its slowing down the drain, unlike gravity fed bottom drilled?

Basically something like one of these that will have a way of allowing the trapped air to escape from your drain lines. You certainly don't need to add the ball valves though.
