My dogface puffer has ich. He is living with a picasso trigger and maroon clown. The other fishes don't appear to have the disease yet. This will be my first time attempting to cure marine ich. I've read up on different methods and I think I'm going to go with hyposalinity. My problem is not knowing whether to treat the main tank or using a hospital tank. I have live rock, live sand and hermit crabs and nassarius snails. Should I treat the main tank with all three fishes in it and move the hermit crabs and snails to a separate tank or move just the sick puffer to a hospital and treating him separately? I know crabs and snails don't like hyposalinity. Thanks!

What I would do:
Pull out all fish and place in QT tank. Treat with cupramine or hyposalinity. Have them in hypo for 4-5 weeks and in hospital tank for 6-7 weeks. After 7-8 weeks place them back into the display tank. This way alll the ick on your fish will be dead and all the ick that didnt have a host in the display tank will be dead as well, this means YOU HAVE AN ICK FREE SYSTEM.
Treating your puffer for ick is great but when he gets better and you put him back into DT he might just get the ick again since ick is now in your DT.

You need to move ALL the fish into a hyposalinity tank. Ich isn't always visible durning certain life stage styles so you may not be able to see it but more than likely it's there. It's best to treat all the fish and leave the main tank fishless for at least 5-6 weeks. You can leave all the corals and inverts in the main tank are they are not bothered by ich.
