Thought I would share one of my many mishaps in converting my 20 gal FW to a Reef tank.
When installing glass overflows, make sure that whatever you use for a spacer can get out (IE over the plastic tank rim) once the silicone cures. In my case it was an aluminum ballast case. Long story short, if you ever want to cut out the rim of a tank, heat a long razor blade with a blow torch..... and as the saying goes, it's like a hot knife through butter.

lol...you should just drill it instead of using overflows, if it is empty...well even if it is not empty, lol...been there before...lol...but using a hole in the back is way safer than an overflow IMO...

It is drilled. It's a coast to coast overflow inside the tank 2.5"deep x 4"H with two bulkheads out the back of the tank.

Bummer Adam. At least you were able to get it out without breaking the tank. Be careful when plumbing the bulkhead on your 20. The glass is really thin on those tanks and very easy to break.
