Domestic (clown) violence.

So I bought two already paired Maroon clows a couple of weeks ago. got em in the tank and they found and hosted my BTA in less than a day. well, this morning, i found my male, just hangin out by my frogspawn, not the BTA. some of his fins have nipped away. worried, i watched if for a while, the female came out of the BTA went up next to the male, back to the BTA, back to the male, etc., etc. she was NOT agressive to the male at all when i watched them.

now from what i have seen the last two weeks, she has not let the male IN the BTA, but he is allowed to hang around outside. and has been until this morning. my question is, can female maroons suddenly turn on their mate? i have read that maroons are one of the most agressive of the clowns. and the females can be picky about their mates. but like i said i bought them paired up. and they have been side by side until this morning. i doubt anything else in my tank nipped at my clown. and don't clowns that are paired up look out for each other?

the tank mates are one of each of a yellow tang, lawnmower blenny, pygmy angel, royal gramma, pink spotted watchman goby, tiger pistol, fire shrimp, cleaner shrimp, in a 60 gallon tank.

i have seen NO agression with any of the above mentioned fish EVER. my tang used to get a little bit agressive when a new tank mate would arrive. but i give him a lil' seaweed and it chills right out. unless something gets close to it's "weed" :smokin: heh heh.
any feedback would be great. thanks!!!

Sounds like the female is just reasserting her dominance...when clowns move from tank to tank, it's hard for the female to get back into the swing of things, because she feels that she is not in control anymore. Just make sure she doesn't kill him in the process and they should be okay after a little bit. Is the anem big enough for both of them or did she kick him out for the space?

it would be a tight squeeze for two in the BTA. she has not let him in. he would sleep on the outside. i have not seen the male IN the BTA. then again, my BTA of course moved to the back in a crevice where i can't see it. but this morning, it moved towards the front where i can see it.

female has shown no signs of agression when i have been watching. but i can't watch 24/7. don't think anything else in the tank nipped my male. maybe a hermit. just feel bad for the little guy, since he was all alone by the frogspawn all day yesterday. don't know where he went after lights out. will have to wait and see when i get home from work today.

Just give it time, Rome was not created overnight, and must of us have been in your shoes a time or two before. It took my Maroons almost two months before the female allowed the male to host with her in the anemone.

Best of luck.

im just a worried parent. :) just glad to know that the fins will grow back!! :) and score one for the male cuz i just noticed today the female had a little sliver of tailfin missing as well. i do think the male is giving the female the silent treatment though. he is still staying away from her. she comes to him, but he just stays in front of the frogspawn. hopefully they will "kiss and makeup". just as long as their are not fighting!!
