Dominance Question

I just added another Clarkii to replace the one I lost when the heater malfunctioned. It is close in size to the one already in the tank. The original is chasing the newcomer around the tank, but doesn't seem to be doing any harm. How long should I let the behavior continue before deciding that they just aren't able to work things out?

Thanks,

Mike

I don't know exactly how long, but I would say no more than a few days. One is either going to give in or not. Also if I was going to replace one clown with another I would have made sure the new addition was considerably smaller than the clown already in residence so the new comer would have to give in right off the bat instead of slugging it out. I love Clarkis and I have had either those or GSM'S for over five years now. My next pair that came in today was a pair of ONYX Perculas, can't wait to get home and see them. Hope this helps....LOL

The new addition started doing the "submission shake" lately, so hopefully they will pair up and start cleaning a patch of rock.

funny thing is my larger ocellaris did the shake for my much smaller onyx... maybe its a coloration thing.. idk..
