I will have 2 of these at the January meeting. I don't know a lot about them, but they seem to like my PC lights.

The sponsor promises that once the frag has doubled in size, they frag it and pass along to the next awaiting person on the list. To recieve a frag of these Red Algae Trees, you must be a member of COMAS and be present at the next meeting to recieve a frag.

Once the sponsor has fragged and given away a small colony as promised, said sponsor makes note of it in this thread, and adds "Completed" after his/her name on the "Have" list.

You must also describe growing conditions and how long it took for you to grow your colony to the appropriate size.

The frag will be approx. 2" tall, and attached to a small bit of rock.

Add your name to the list for those of you who want a colony. The Have list is for those of you who recieved a colony, and have not yet fragged and passed along the colony.

I hope that what I read about fish usually leave this one alone is true

i wouldnt suggest this with a tang in the tank......

Sheri, how did you propagate this algae ?

I just cut a small branch off to try it. I tied it to some rubble with thread because I didn't want to glue the raw end. It has been happy for almost 2 months now. It was totally trial and error. It seems that it worked on the first try. If there are other suggestions, I can try on another small branch. The main colony is about softball size.

I am not sure. I think adhere because I can't see any roots or anything sucking to the rock. I haven't taken the thread off of the 2 frags yet. I move them around on the bottom of the tank and they don't shift on the rock at all that I can see. It is a slow grower, at least in my tank.

well, I took the thread off of one of the frags a couple of days ago. It had not made any attempt to attach to the rock at all. I am going to leave the other threaded and glue this one to a rock. Ryan and Pamela, if you are at the meeting to accept them, you'll have to keep us informed of how they do in your tanks. I haven't been able to find any info online about them. I may bring 1-2 unmounted cuts for the next 2, being Adam and Paul T. to experiment with. We'll have to see. As slow as it seems to grow, I don't want to thin out the main one too much til someone figures out some info on it.

Since I have tangs in all my tanks and Paul advises againest it I better pull out. I don't think either of my refugiums have strong enough lights or I would try it there but oh well, thanks anyway,
Pamela

ok who else wants one for a Tank or smothing, cuz if not thier either going into the sump or my trash can..an when i had my tang he dident bother it..

Hey Scott, I really would like to try one i just didn't want to take it after I had been warned and then have it get eaten. If you haven't had any trouble though then I would like back on the list.
