Don't judge lol

there is definitely some truth to what sandwi54 says. Ich, velvet, and brook are all confinement issues. The more fish are confined in the process of bring them to market, the greater the incident rate.

Now that you mention dogs: the good flea meds ( Frontline, etc.) seem to be almost useless now. I have a lot of conversations with fellow dog owners (only, in person) that are oddly similar to RC forum ich discussions. My memory is damn good for my age; ich just wasn't this big a deal 10-15 years ago. Folks didn't try to manage it then either, they wiped it out; at least in my hobbyist crowd. Velvet was the big worry. I still think a lot of ich reported now is really velvet. Especially when quick and multiple fish losses.

I've often wondered if Ich improperly treated at too low a copper level can somehow build up an immunity to copper altogether. Akin to humans using antibiotics too frequently. About dogs & fleas, and even our aquarium products: I wonder what kind of QC these companies employ. As I stated above, we at least have the FDA to protect us. What agency polices companies who make animal products?

On another note, I actually thought there used to be more people in the hobby than there are today. Maybe all the closing LFS are just being replaced by online.
