Don't know how to go about this..

My aquarium (40b) which is about 2 years old has a phosphate issue and has hair algae/ lyngbya and I was going to replace the sandbed because it is releasing phosphates and other stuff. Would I be able to put my livestock in a spare 29 for a few days, maybe a week or so, while I replace the sandbed and scrub the rock? The spare 29 is empty so I would have to use old tank water/make all fresh tank water. My livestock is a few hermit crabs, few snails, a serpent starfish, 2 clowns and a pajama cardinal.

What about just using GFO to remove the phosphate?
Then adjusting your maintenance/feeding so it doesnt' come back again..

But yes.. You could easily just dump the water into another tank.. transfer over the creatures and remove the sand from the current tank and fill it back up with water and see if a cycle occurs or not before putting the creatures back..

If you are replacing the sand make sure you use dry sand and not "live sand" if you want the best chance of not having a new cycle,etc...

My order came in last night of gfo, thanks for the info

When I comes to cleaning the rocks, what kind of brush should I use to really get it all off the rocks? I looked into the api algeafix and it said it would harm crabs, I don't want it to kill my hermit crabs and such

I'm planning on having everything setup tonight for the 29 and transfer everything tomorrow so I can replace the sand and give the rocks a good scrub to get rid of the algea
