Doser timings

So I use a kamoer doser and dose every hour, 24hrs a day.

Then it occurred to me that sps will only be growing during the day, so I just tested my alk (about 5 hours before lights on) and it's was at 8.8. Usually i test when lights have been on for around 6 hours and it's always around 8.2
So let's say there's a swing of .5 dkh daily, that can't be good.

If I alter the times is that sensible? It sounds that way, I'd also imagine I'll get better growth as there's no swing.

SPS only grow during the day? That's new to me. I am interested to see what others say on this.

I dose alkalinity at night to counter balance the pH swing. Your readings could be higher if your testing while it's dosing.


And that difference is probably with in the tolerances of the test kit.

I dose 75ml of cal 2x during lights on, and 70ml of alk 2x during lights off. I'd prefer to run mine every hour but I can't get my rk to do that. I've been running my current setup for over two years with no problem. Ca~400 dkh~8

I dose 24 hours a day. I use a vertex libra and just tell it how much per dose and how many time a day and do not worry about it. Would have to look, but I think it is 30 doses per 24 hour period. I use 5 liters of CA and Alk per week. I adjust the strength of my 2-part as needed, but always dose 5 liters of each.

Photosynthesis happens during the day, but surely SPS grow 24/7.

Thats like saying animals only eat during the day so they only grow during the day..... which is false.

People seem to get good growth and colour in high alk/ca demand tanks with dosing times as little as once a day (for those hand dosers). I believe dosing more periodically could provide a slight advantage but its going to be slight IMO.

I dose my ESV 2 part over a 24 hour period. I just set it to 6 doses and the ghl splits it up through that time. As for ph swing a dose kalk at night 12 times via doser. May put another pump in the solution so I can dose 24 times a night. This also helps with how fast I go through my 2 part
