dosing baking soda to keep ph level in hyposalinity quarantine

I have read that dosing baking soda to keep the ph stable while doing hyposalinty is a good idea.

The first 3 days I dose about 1 drop per 5 seconds. The ph was stable at around 7.7 so I decided to bump it to 1 drop per 3 seconds. The next day the ph went up to 8.4 and the whole tank glass sides, bottom, and the powerhead where covered up in baking soda residue. So far the fishes are eating fine, but I am concerned. Any advice?

I used 1/2 pound of baking soda per gallon.

That is A LOT of baking soda! I made a homemade IV using a 2 liter soda bottle. I used 2 teaspoons/2 liter. I have a very slow drip going 1 drop every 15 seconds and leave it like that during the day and night. In the morning when I get up it's at 7.8 and when I get home it's at 8.4.

I've used baking soda for years. When you use a pound a day the price for arm and hammer sure beats what you'd get at a lfs
