Dosing Potassium?
I have some questions regarding dosing of potassium.. I use brightwells regularly (for blue coloration) and I just started dosing zeovit's potassium iodide (as iodine rplcmnt), both claim to increase blue coloration is SPS! I believe they do help with the blue coloration of SPS (my acros have intense blue)... but Also what's the diffrence between potassium iodide vs. postassium or iodine dosing? From what I thought according to Calfo's book potassium iodide is a way of delivering iodine! but will the potassium in this solution funcion as the potassium from brightwell's helping blue coloration? Zeovit's product potassium iodide claims it increases SPS blue coloration also, but they do supply their own potassium, k balance! So.. I thought I'd like to read what some experts on the topic have to say! What do you guys think? Is potassium itself helpful necessary to dose? how frequently? What does it do specifically?
If this has already been discussed.. please point to the thread thanks!!

You are correct on potassium iodide and potassium iodine. I would not recommend dosing potassium though. Unless you are running a ULNS and have a need for potassium. I thought I needed to dose it, I had many of the tell tale signs. But after dosing for a while then having it tested I was 2X the NWS level, not good. Always always test for what you dose.

Thanks!!! I do have a ULNS running biopellets... I tested the K with korallen zutch test though... it didn't seem to accurate....but anyways thanks for your reply!

Btw do u know which is the one that enhances blue coloration?

From my experience with zeo, k+ helps with all colors, test and keep at 390
Pif or potassium iodine flouride helps with blue, and does not increase k+ that much, ( keep in mind the inaccurate test kits available.
And iodine it self helps with all colors of sps.
If k is low all colors are affected, specially orange.

The difference in the two is the potassium iodine is for raising iodine levels which you only want to change 1 or 2 ppm while the potassium you typically want to alter more like 20ppm so it's typically something like potassium chloride. The two elements can be utilized differently by the corals to produce different pigments in the blue and purple range of the spectrum. So simmilar color from different means, one coral may color up better from iodine while another would from potassium. Also iodine if overdosed can turn corals brown so more isn't better. Hope that helps.
