Dosing Pumps

I am trying to decide which dosing pump is right for me. I have narrowed it down to the Aqua Medic Reef Doser and the Reef Filler pumps. I will be using it to dose limewater to my 90gal reef. Currently I am using the Kent Aquadose and I am finding that it is very unreliable and must be topped off almost daily. I mix my limewater in my basement in a 44 gal brute trash can and would like to use one of these pumps to supply my tank. Is anyone using one of these and do you have any feedback or suggestions about it.

I've been using Reef Fillers for a long time and they are a reasonable way to go.

I'm not familiar with the Aqua Medic doser in particular, but peristaltic pumps in general are also a fine way to go.

I use the aqua medic but wish I got the reef filler. If you are pumping remotely from the basement I don't think the aquq medic will push it that far, the reef filler will go 200 feet though. I just put 5 gallon jugs under my stand and dose w/ the aqua medic, but when I can afford it I will get the reef filler and fill big trash cans in the garage for top off limewater

Thanks for the feedback.

Randy - Do you use a float switch with the reef filler?

I was thinking about just dialing the pump back so it pumps just below my evaporation rate. I will have it hooked up to my Aquacontroller III just in case my PH gets to high it will shut off. Just not sure about adding the float switch.

Yes, I have a float switch in my sump. i use a pretty good one, the LV1201:

It needs no relay. :)

It needs no relay so can be wired to the pump directly. It is big so it keep the level quite constant and accurately measured even with disturbances in the water (instead of bobbing on and off every second), a snail on it is less likely to be an issue, and best of all, it is very rugged, and has performed well for many years.

I did have a E. quad anemone get into the sump once, and when it climbed onto the float switch, it did turn it full on 24/7. :D

Randy.

Could you please post a link to these pumps. I'm also in the market for a dosing pump.

Thanks
Dave
