Has anyone ever dosed their tank with potassium permangante? I have a 75 gal tank and my Flame Angel has an anchor worm attached to its gill (I am pretty sure that is what it is after researching on it). During the research I have read there are two ways to get rid of it:
1. Catch the fish and pull it out with tweezers which may be more harm than good as sometimes the head of the worm ends up being stuck inside the fish if you don't pull it all out. Plus, I don't have a fish trap and trying to catch it with all the corals will be almost next to impossible; or
2. Dose your tank with PP (potassium parmangante) which will kill the worm, plus also helps treat the tank from several other bacterial diseases. This to me sounds easier but I understand that dosing a tank with PP can be lethal to everything if I happen to overdose.
So, now I am seeking advice on what to do. I have done a lot of reading on PP but I don't understand the dosing equivalent to a 75 gal. tank. Or, I should say maybe 65 gal. considering the live rock that I have.
I ordered the PP from online which I should get this week sometime (hopefully) as I want to treat the fish before that worm lays its eggs if it hasn't already. Maybe there will be instructions on the bottle but not sure. I have read I can make up a mixture of 10 teaspoons in 1 quart of water and then use 2 drops for each gallon - does that sound right.
If anyone can help me on this I would appreciate it. Does PP hurt clams and snails? I have one clam - should I remove it? That I can catch - lol. The snails are all under the sand and come out at night so not sure if they would be affected. HELP!!!!!
