dosing?

WallyV

uhhh how much???
I was looking into building a 2 part dosing setup. I am having trouble finding a generic peristaltic pump that works at low volumes i.e. 0.5ml/min. I was just curious if anyone has an idea where I can find this....if it is out there.
Thanks

For precise measurement AFAIK, you have two options: a) 'reef specific' type high-quality peri pumps (Litermeter, etc.) sold by your standard reefing companies; b) medical grade enteral pumps like the Kangaroo from medical supply houses, or those modded for aquarium use and sold by a guy that slips my mind right now. Both are pretty pricy.

Do you have a computer to control them? The only way I could see 2 part implementation is to have them turned on and off at set intervals (5 min/hr) to dose the proper amount over 24 hrs because they are set in their flowrate. If you're down with that, right on. Just make sure you know the maximum CA/ALK your tank will ever need and times that by two to futureproof yourself.
If I may make a comment, though: if you try to go bare-*** minimum now, you'll pay 3X in the future. Save up for the quality gear.

This set up was an idea I had, so I could use it when I am on vacation. I am going to set up with a calcium reactor eventually. Maybe I should just try to find a calcium reactor that someone is selling....

Why wouldn't a digital timer work to control the dosing times???
That's what everyone else has had success using.

Thanks for that info rehnberg. That is exactly what I have drawn up. What dosing pumps did you end up going with?

Thanks. I think the drew's doser is the best deal, because it is already wired and ready to go. If I were to go the other route, it would cost the same with much more work involved and parts to buy to achieve the same final product.

i recently bought two BRS dosers and so far am pretty happy with them. I just run them off digital timers. its a breeze.

Thanks for the info on the BRS dosers. If I don't buy a Ca reactor that is the route that I am going to go with.
