Hi, can anyone give their opinion as to which species this is

it came into the shop as pseudochromis cyanotaenia but i think it looks more like a female cypho purpurascens. Its the blue edge to the scales and that ring around the eye that make me think this.
Sorry the picks are bad. its up in the top tanks and is very secretive.

Thanks

Hi, I've kept both these fish, and would agree it's a Cypho.

The other possibility is that Pseudoplesiops typus - there have been quite a lot of these sold recently as misc. dottybacks out of Indonesia. They are rather similar to the Cypho., but the female isn't so pretty.

Thanks Wayne. I ruled out Pseudoplesiops typus because the eye looked different. It was a tmc id but i'm definately swung on cypho. Need to get them to put them side by side in the tanks to see how they get on.

You say you have kept both species. Was the cypho's as a pair or single individual? If it was a pair, how did they get on? from what i've read they need a pretty large territory or the female is likely to suffer. Any experience would be good.
Thanks
