Can someone double check this for me?
I've read that since interceptor tablets are made to be swallowed whole by a dog or cat, there are concerns that the active ingredient may not be distributed evenly throughout the tablet, making it harder to use portions of a single pill. I want to use the smallest tablet possible when I treat my tank, so I can just use the whole thing and know I'm getting enough active ingredient into the water.
One large pill of interceptor (for dogs 50-100 lbs) has 23mg of milbemycin oxime and treats 380 gallons. So, 1mg of milbemycin oxime treats 16.5 gallons. I'm estimating my tank volume is 50 gallons total, so I will need minimum 3mg of milbemycin oxime.
Brown (2-10 lb dogs) = 2.3mg milbemycin oxime
Green (11-25 lb dogs) = 5.75mg milbemycin oxime
Yellow (26-50 lb dogs) = 11.5mg milbemycin oxime
White (51-100 lb dogs) = 23mg milbemycin oxime
I'm planning to crush two tablets of the brown 2-10lb dog tablets and go with that, since I've read that overdosing a bit is safe. That would be a guaranteed 4.6mg treatment. Does that sound ok, or should I just go with the medium dog size or just risk it and chop up the large dog size?![Big grin :D :D](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png)
I just want to be sure I'm going in the right direction here. Thanks!
