Double ended VS Mogul base

Any comment or opinions about the pros and cons of double ended or mogul based MH lights....I was looking for mogul based pendants but found a good deal on DE pendants....looking for input before i make a decision.

Thanks

With DE you have to worry about your UV glass, which if it breaks puts you out of order until you can get another done up. If I had it to do over again I would go SE over DE..

thanks Db...i also heard there are shadow probs with DE.

and to allsps....I am unsure what the hype about radiums is...I thought it was a brand of buld such as Phoenix...then again maybe it is and just made is a SE bulb.

I used to run DE, then switched to SE. More/better reflector combinations and the radiums are hands down..imo..the best bulb out there. The only advantage of DE is that they are smaller so can be used in small spaces. Phoenix 14k DE are the radiums in the DE world.

Also converted from DE to mogul after causing a death ray when I learned the hard way about removing (perpetually salt-creep-covered) glass from DE. Many more SE bulb choices than for DE (likely why the DE pendant is on sale).

I have always preferred the SE over DE because you can touch them and wipe them off when they are in place. It is also a lot easier to clean a SE bulb than DE glass shields. I always liked the Iwasaki 175W 15k myself.

Impossible to tell. Way to many variables (bulb, ballast, wiring, voltage, how clean is your glass, at what depth, etc.) You can definately compare one setup against another, but not a whole class (DE vs SE).

I have DE and SE, i perfer the SE. Actually recently changed my SE to dual elements and love it, something I could not have done on DE.

That is also my opinion. Radiums are superb.

plusrites are super cheap but not when you figure in the cost after replaceing them every 2 months because they died. at least that was my experience on the last 3 bulbs I tried from them. went back to XM's and won't look back.

I went DE cause I was mounting pendents in a hood and wanted to keep a low profile.

Cleaning the glass cover isn't a big deal, lots of good reflector and bulb choices. Only negative for me is changing the DE bulb (clips within bulb holders a hassle) compared to the ease of just screwing a SE bulb in and out.

Depends what u like. If u like the look of the de phoenix get them, they r a great bulb. Radiums are a little blue for me and too expensive. If your going with se, u cant beat the growth youll get from a 400w se reeflux 10k, Awesome. Supplement with some actinic vho and its the best combo for color /growth. IMO
