If I am downloading the most recent control/firmware, should I save my settings, delete the current control/firmware then upload the new control/firmware? of do I upload the new control/firmware and then delete the old?

Yes save your setting and delete the desktop version you are running, make sure you upgrade in increments and follow the maual istructions very closely.

You dont delete firmware versions.

According to Matthias this is not true, I remember him mentioning that there was no need to upgrade firmware incrementally.
