Downsizing to Nano

I want to set up a nano. I found a kit on Marine depot.

I might want to keep some soft corals down the road. Right now just want FOWLR.

Innovative Marine 20 Gallon nano kit. with skimmer and media reactor.

Do I need the media reactor?

I was going to buy the tank and skimmer separately. It is like $100 difference if I buy piecemeal vs the kit. then use that money for lights.

What lights would you recommend?

I’m not seeing a need for a skimmer. I did not need one on my 20. 3-4 gallons is 20% water change...i ran a Gen 4 Ecotech, decent spread. Factor lower light corals to the sides...

Try DIY Reef Glass Skimmer if you know some glass factory they will make it, You just need a 10 inch glass which is both sides open with 1.25inch dia. It looks stunningly beautiful in the display tank. Just Highlight and it will turn heads.

With a tank this small, i dont see a need for skimmers or reactors, unless you already have one laying around, i would invest in good led lights instead. I keep my 29g biocube simple, less equipement means less point of failure. Just perform a 5g water change month would probably be good as long as you dont over stock it. My 29g i have 3clowns, yellow watchmean goby n a royal gramma n 5 btas n some corals.
