Downunder Ricordea Frustrations

As some of you may know and those that don't might be shocked at this...but the price of Ricordeas downunder can be worth more then the current price of gold itself...

This is a very frustrating thing and its something that prevents most aquarium keepers in Australia from ever actually being able to have a true 'Ricordea Garden'.

It's rare to see any bright colored Ricordea to go for less then a couple of hundred collars and usually at that price it will be quite small about thumbnail size, 1 color. A 'large' (2inch+) Bright Colored (single color) R.Yuma downunder will go for $500+...

It's a very sad and disappointing thing to have to overcome if an Aussie such as myself wants to have a truly bright and vibrant Ric Garden...I tossed a coin a few days ago whether or not to purchase a 1.5inch very bright single colored orange R.yuma for $300 which I chose not to purchase because what I did purchased filled a large styrofoam box with a $100 in change.

It's very hard to justify them here is an example of the massive difference and whilst I can't be judgmental towards the sellers simply because this is the market and all that sell them are my friends, it's just the state of the "Ric Industry"...

I know that the U.S. & AUS do not share the same prices on everything in the Aquarium trade, something we might get could be cheaper then what you get it for as with the case and our Ric sales...But I do not think you are hit by something so drastically different in price range like this, twice/triple maybe...but not something with that is +45x more then what we get for here as is with the R.yumas...:deadhorse1:

Yumas are more expensive from what I have seen. It is because you get them in more colours than the florida ricordeas. I personally prefer floridas as yumas can be temperamental and the ones I had just melted away after a few months whereas the floridas do not do this. In South Africa we pay on average 30-35 USD per florida ric. The shipping of these corals makes them so expensive compared to the US market.

Looks like I need to grab my Yuma collection and go to Australia... The ten or so that I have could pay for the trip at least! They can get pricey in the states also. I was very lucky to have $15 invested in my yumas. I have 3 different types that I picked up at a lfs. Here's 2 of them

When I bought them I didn't realize how big they can get. I thought silver dollar size would be it. These measure 5" in diameter...

A 5inch R.yuma in Aus with those colors would not sell for under $1000...

How much would the 8 1" babies it popped off go for.... I'm thinking I could come down there for a week!

They would sell for hundreds each between $300-$500 each my best guess with the latter the more likely...

Having said that good luck getting them through security...and if you do, CONTACT ME! :lmao:

How much would something like this be worth? It was gifted to me, I didn't care for it much and a scraped it off the rock, flushed it down the toilet. It left tiny bits of the foot behind and actually grew 6 new ones. This picture is of the new ones

They are our cheapest Ric's the cheapest I have seen them for sale was $7ea at about 1inch diameter (to which I bought them all). But they are more commonly sold for between $30-$40each.

That's unfortunate that they cost so much down under. Here in the US. Ricordea generally sell for maybe $12-20 at the LFS. Yumas can get pricey. The more common ones like solid reds, pink, orange or green in the $20-40 range while the rare morphs cost $100-200

I've seen sites in the US where you can bulk buy 500 rics for $500 or 1000 rics for $1000....

A true rainbow multicoloured premium ultra grade ric downunder and at only 1-2inch diameter WILL SELL for over $1000 alone....
