Sorry for the bad quality photo, but is this normal for the green part to be open like this? This same "head" has done this twice that I have seen. I have only had this coral for almost a month so I am still learning.

Not sure, but i'd say no.
i have mine on the sandbed.
Yours may be a bit high.
Of course, all dependent on lights.

And, do you mean dragon soul favia?
if so, I don't see any of the yellow.
Yours may not be a dragon soul.
Or it could be really really unhappy.

Hmmm, I was told dragon's eye by the lfs, but now that you say that it does have yellow all along the edges. I know the picture is bad so it's hard to tell. I was also unaware that they didn't need much lighting. That more than likely is the problem. However, I do still have just the basic factory lights.

Sorry, it does not look happy.
How about that red acan to the left, may be too high as well.

What type of lights?
Good lights are critical for many (most?) corals.

The acan seems to be doing great. It has already developed 3 new heads. Of course they are small still yet but growing great.

Looks perfectly healthy to me. The first picture looks like the bottom head caught something to eat and is closed up around it.

It looks to be in good health to me as well. It is indeed a lower light coral. I've found they are sensitive to drops in calcium, alkalinity & magnesium. Keep them stable. Good luck,
