I manage to get hold of a frag of dragon eye zoas. i found out that they have lost their colouration compare to the last time i saw it 1year go from a friends aquarium.
this first pic was the zoas i have seen 1 year ago.
It had then become like that today.
was told the zoas had been under 2x250W MH in a 50cm tall tank.
the zoas had been somewhere midlevel with direct 250W MH.
any idea what i should do to let it heal back to what it looked like before?
The first picture looks photoshopped..JMHO
Those polyps come from the Fiji area and like high light so I do not think lighting was the issue. When I see color loss like that it is usually from high phosphates and nitrates. I would just keep up on the water quality and decent to high lighting and they will bounce back. good luck
I've had a lot of dragon's eyes come through my shop that looked just like the first photo. I have no reason to believe it's Photoshopped based on the color. I have consistently had them fade in nano's, but they tend to keep their color great in better-lit systems. Curious to see why yours faded.
do you feed them or supply any elements e.g iodine?
I am currently using zeovit's coral vitalizers and kent marines lugol for my corals
not sure what had happen to the zoas during the past 1 year in my friends tank.
Do you guys think it can be the cause of insufficient lighting in the previous tank?
You stated that they were under dual 250w in a 50cm deep tank...and as I stated before they like high light so unless your friend had crap bulbs/lighting then it was not the lighting. I would focus on what I mentioned before and they should color back up in no time. good luck
yes it is the same. One of the biggest factors in polyps losing color is high phosphates, poor water quality and lack of lighting. Yours do not suffer from the 3rd. good luck
