They need access to a lot of tiny crustaceans. They'll often take mysis, cyclopeez or other frozen foods, but I don't think that's enough to sustain them long-term. I put these fish in the same category as mandarins in that respect. You need a mature tank with a refugium that is big enough to support an active population of pods and no big competitors for that food source.

And no anemones. Unlike other flagtail pipes, these guys like to slither around and rest on corals. It's part of what makes them so cool, but I wouldn't risk them around nems and other potent stinging corals.
