dragon soul favia?

I'm curious to see how long it takes to get back to full health. I enjoy watching a coral go from poor health to good health more than I enjoy watching them grow

Ok...so came home a little while ago and since yesterday haven't been looking so good..I tried giving it a day to see if he was gonna turn around but actually looks worst today..one of the eyes had a tint if red probably from the tissue reseding ...anyways decided to move it to lower lighting..what you guys think should I try feeding it or just let it be

:uhoh3:

Id keep it in the sand bed (thats where I have mine) id still stick with the 1-2 feedings a week. I wouldnt mess with it too much and further stress it out. Id keep it where it is and just do the 1-2 weekly feedings and see how it goes.

I fed it last night again and it ate..he just doesn't seem happy..actually went to a different fs and got to see some nice favia in person and wow very nice the skin kinda droops when happy...I know mines is still acclimatingbut am I watching it die..the guy who worked there suggested I put him in the center below direct light in the sand bed...I've been trying to stay away from high light but it's that my next move if he keeps looking unhappy

Yours isnt giving up just yet. If it helps mine is in the center of my girlfriend's biocube 29 under direct lighting. Everyone would like to have/buy super nice looking corals but sometimes you get one that's hanging on and I personally find it more enjoyable to watch your hard work and care transform a not so healthy coral into a thriving coral. Some corals might take longer than others to show signs of improvement but as long as yours still accepts food and has no residing tissue, its still holding on. Maybe give it a little more light (doesn't have to be 100% direct but maybe a little more light than its getting now, if that makes you more comfortable) and give that a week or 2 and see of its showing signs of improvement.

Considering I only payed $5 for the frag I still want it to make it..I will keep you guys updated in a week with a pic and see what happen:sad1:

Good luck man. dragon Souls are one of my fav and on my short list. Keep a close eye on stabilizing your params and be patient.

My favourite coral, but really struggling with keeping it healthy and colourful as well.
I got a really good size piece about 2 months ago and tried everything. Unlike the most comments I see here and the other forums , the guy at LFS told me to give it as much light as possible.
It turns green when I have it up high in the tank, and when I place it under low light or on the shade - the purple bits gets this dry appearance. I would love to make this coral thrive.

Currently keeping it up high - although it turns green it looks healthier - and noticing some growth.

My light set up is not as strong so having it high in the tank probably provides medium light.

So it's been about a month..same spot..just left alone and I haven't even fed pellets anymore..was trying to see if it would do it's own thing..but no..more like dying soul favia..want to move it one more time before he goes down..we're would you guys move him to if it were you guys..posted a pic maybe that helps

wow that does not look good at all.

I am not an expert but I would move it closer to the light and see how it goes.
Look here is my observation with mine if it helps - I have a fairly large rock with three sides (top and two sides)covered with this coral, I would say there are at least 25-30 eyes on it. The top which is under direct light is green & growing and the sides which doesn't get much light does not look healthy at all (like your one in the photo). So I came to conclusion that light is not too bad for these guys.

I also noticed when the purple bits turn greenish colour under high light, the green colouring moves towards the center in time and make the green eye bigger so this is the way it grows I reckon, which also explains why the edges near bare rock are green - it is expanding its borders.

As I said I am not an expert , I am fairly new in this hobby but I would def try increased the lighting.

I feed mine reef roids twice a week btw and it loves it.

picture.php

this is how mine looks under blue light now, I unfortunately lost one eye in the middle when I first got it but it is getting better, new flesh started to grow on it.

Looks good batts..now that's a huge piece that looks like it's thriving...I have a 150 watt mh.where would you guys place it if my tank was yours..beneath the frogspawn?...on the big Rick on the top left of the birds nest,? Just don't know where to go from here

The frogspawn could sting it so watch out for that.

Once I let magnesium drift way low and the purple tissue bleached. It took about 3 months to recover. I can't be sure that was the cause but it may be worth checking. Mine recovered under 6 T5 ATI mid tank placement in an 18" deep tank. I have reason to believe old bulbs had a spectrum shift and that was a contributor as well.

It receives good, steady, broad flow from a MP40 powerhead. BTW I would get it off the sand bed. They colonize on rock in nature. I believe sand beds can irritate it somehow and often the flow patterns in that location aren't suitable for this coral. Feeding helps as well. Good luck.

Yea one of my param.is off..I believe it's the alk but not sure..going this weekend to get my water tested...really sucks I don't have my own..so I have a bottle I got a few years ago, couldn't find an exp.date not sure if it's still good or not..would it hurt if I added a little? Will definitely move it to a rock up higher and see what happens..just not sure where:headwalls:
