Dragonets spawning

I was wondering if anyone has had there mandarins spawn? I have a pair that I just bought about two weeks ago that were not paired up when I bought them. I put them in the tank at the same time and tonight about 15 min before the lights went out they spawned. My big ? Is can you see the eggs and sperm when they spawn? They were swimming VERY close to each other and raising to the serface of the tank but I could not see any eggs? Thanks for any help. I am very happy they are spawning ( if that is in fact what they are doing).

They'll get together like that and rise a number of times before actually spawning. My dragonets will dance for an hour or more on some nights, others they spawn faster. When they actually spawn, the female will release eggs and then she'll pretty much immediately go to her sleep spot. The eggs will by tiny little translucent white balls that will float on the surface. On the ascent that they actually spawn, they'll often splash a little bit on the surface too.

Ok cool that's what I was wondering if they had really spawned or if they were just thinking about it but either way I really enjoy watching them. Tektite have you ever tried to hatch the eggs?

Yes, a few times, just don't have food for them. I'm eventually going to raise the larvae, just don't have time at the moment. I also need to get a culture of parvocalanus started for them too.

How do you collect the eggs? And where do you get the parvocalanus?

Turn off the flow and let them do their thing, the eggs will be on the surface of the water.
